Do You Have to Wear a Mask on a Plane?

three face masks

Flying will never be the same as it was before the COVID-19 outbreak. As the country and world begin to open back up, traveling by plane is going to feel a lot different. One significant change is the requirement to wear a face mask on a plane. Airlines are ruling out new policies for passengers to fly safely. Learn more about why you need to wear a face mask on your flight from our experts at our aircraft dispatcher school in Fort Lauderdale.

Should I Wear a Face Mask on My Flight?

Embrace your new fashion accessory because face masks aren’t going anywhere just yet. As your travel plans continue throughout and after the COVID-19 pandemic, you are most likely going to be required to wear a face mask on your flight. As an airline passenger, it is your duty to protect yourself with the use of a face mask on a plane. But this is the new normal. You are not going to be the only one wearing a face mask; in fact, if you don’t wear one, you will be the outlier.

Since around mid-May, major airlines like American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest Airlines require passengers to wear a face mask as they travel. Your face masks will be worn during check-in procedures, boarding the plane, during your flight, and as you land at your destination. While you are allowed to remove your mask for eating and drinking, you will be required to wear your personal protective gear for the majority of your travel.

What If I Don’t Have a Mask?

By now, you should be accustomed to wearing a face mask in public, as most government officials have enforced this rule. But it’s not uncommon to forget items as you rush to make your flight on time. Some airlines are now providing single-use face masks to those who don’t have one with them. However, if you are looking for maximum protection and reducing the risk of catching COVID-19 or any other illnesses as you travel, it is encouraged to bring your own mask with a thicker and more comfortable material, especially if you are on a long commute.

You can choose to wear a cloth mask, a surgical mask, or any other protective gear as you defend yourself and others against the spread of germs. As you enter the next generation of air travel and you wear your face mask on a plane, just remember you are saving lives and staying healthy. Our team hopes you stay safe and healthy as you enjoy your travel plans.
