Travel Information

General Arrival/Departure Information (as of Dec. 17, 2023)

Sheffield School is located in the city of Plantation, Florida, just to the west of Ft. Lauderdale at 499 NW 70th Ave, Suite 110, Plantation FL 33317.

For U.S. students, please provide a government issued ID such as a driver license and for non-U.S. students, please ensure that you bring two forms of valid photo ID. For non-U.S. citizens, one of these ID’s must be your passport and the other must be government issued, such as a driver license. For non-U.S. students, failure to provide two current valid forms of identification will prevent you from being certified by the FAA.

Important note for international students.
PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL I-20 FORM THAT WE SEND YOU IN HAND WHEN YOU TRAVEL. YOU NEED TO GIVE IT TO THE INSPECTOR ALONG WITH YOUR PASSPORT WHEN YOU ENTER THE COUNTRY.

Important note for ALL students.
Please plan your return trip to be at least 3-5 days following the aircraft dispatcher class graduation date if the class size is smaller, and possibly 5-8 days following the class end date if the class is larger. This is due to practical examination scheduling (the larger the class, the more days that are needed to complete exams). We recommend that you plan your return trip to be flexible. You are welcome to contact us anytime for updates on class size and our estimated wait time for FAA practical/certification exams.

Flying into Ft. Lauderdale (FLL)

If practical you should fly into Ft. Lauderdale airport. Travel options to your housing/hotel from FLL airport are:

  1. www.go-airportshuttle.com or call 954-561-8888. They offer a “shared ride” for about $20 per person and max wait 30 minutes or “town car” for $50 up to 4 passengers – no waiting.

  2. You can take the Airline Airport Service for $10.00 (if still available and not the aforementioned), sharing the ride with other passengers. (Look for the Ground Service Transportation Desk next to the baggage area on the lower level of the airport terminal building.)

  3. Taxi – It is about a 15/20-minute taxi ride to the school and possibly more or less to your housing/hotel. The fare is approximately $35. Beware of the con-artists who take you on a longer route or claim difficulty in locating a simple address. (Have the EXACT address ready to provide driver, and consider using Google Maps to print out the route).

  4. Book a ride with a travel service such as Uber, etc..

Flying into Miami (MIA)

If you are flying into Miami, look for Super Shuttle attendants in bright yellow shirts outside the Baggage Claims area of any major airline. The van will take one passenger for $34.00 (additional people will be charged $8.00 each). It will drop you off wherever you plan to stay.

Arriving by car from the south or from the airport

(From Miami, take I-95 North to I-595) Take I-595 West to the University Drive. exit. Drive north on University to Broward Blvd. Turn right on Broward Blvd, going east to NW 70th Avenue. Take a left on NW 70th Ave heading north. Right after NW 4th Street, before NW 5th Street, turn left into the parking lot off the “499 Professional Center Building” to find our school.

The school is located in the “499 Professional Center Building” located on the southwest corner at the next traffic signal (the corner of NW 70th Ave and NW 5th Street). Turn into the parking lot on the right just before the traffic signal. Our suite is #110 and overlooks the pond.

Arriving by car from the north

If you are driving, using either the Florida Turnpike or I-95, exit on Sunrise Boulevard and go west on Sunrise Blvd. until you come to NW 65th Ave., where you turn left (South). (N.W. 65th avenue is exactly one mile west of the Florida Turnpike.) Continue south on N.W. 65th avenue, which curves to the right and becomes N.W. 5th Street. At the next traffic light, intersection of NW 70th Ave and NW 65th Ave/NW 5th Street you will see the “499 Professional Center Building” where the school is located.

Note: Sheffield School is closed during the weekends. Arrivals during that time should be to your pre-arranged housing, hotel, etc..)

Finding the school from the ‘499 Professional Center Building’ parking lot

Facing the Main Entrance from the parking lot, look to the left of the footbridge leading to the main entrance. The school entrance is located to the left, behind the waterfall. The various suite numbers in our building are not in any logical order.

Items to bring to class

  1. Calculator (a simple basic type).

  2. Pen & Pencil Notebook or legal pad for note taking and highlighters.

  3. Flash drive (or purchase locally).

  4. You must bring your smart devices (tablet) and/or laptop for note taking and Internet/email access.

  5. If you are a coffee drinker, bring a thermos. Our office building has a vending machine for drinks, but not for coffee.

  6. We suggest you bring a sweater or jacket for the classroom, since the classroom is sometimes cool. The dress code for the classroom is casual, (but no sandals and tank tops please.)

  7. Photo IDs (Drivers License, Passport, Military ID, etc.) Make sure the expiration date of your ID is after the course completion date by at least a few days. For non-USA students, make sure both forms of IDs’ expiration dates are after the course completion by at least a few days and the names match exactly on both.

Returning to either airport after the course

The same services listed above will be available from your housing/hotel or the school. The Super Shuttle to the Miami Airport should be arranged the day before departure, by calling 954-764-1700.

Note: These are the latest prices we have; they are subject to change without our knowledge. If you are arriving from outside the U.S., it is advisable to have U.S. currency, or money, for taxi or limo fare.

Please call us if you should have any questions. Thank you and have a safe trip.
