Flight Dispatcher Bonuses & Benefits
When determining what career path to pursue, it’s important to consider the potential pay, your ability to find a job, and the requirements and training you might need—but it’s also important to determine if you’ll enjoy it. Aircraft dispatchers not only engage in an exciting and fulfilling career, but also enjoy a number of perks and benefits from their job.
Travel Perks
First of all, one advantage of working with the airline and travel industry is that you can often receive employee discounts for travel. While benefits can vary from employer to employer and company to company, it’s fairly standard for airlines to provide discounted or even free travel privileges to their employees. A flight dispatcher might be able to get not only discounted flights, but also discounted hotels, rentals cars, cruises, or other travel advantages. In addition, flight dispatchers are required by the FAA to have at least five hours per year of flight time in a cockpit jumpseat—and many airlines extend this privilege on an unlimited basis.
Traditional Benefits
Flight dispatchers also usually receive more traditional employee benefits, such as retirement plans, stock options, credit union membership, or paid vacations. They might also offer health, life, or disability insurance.
Not every company is the same, so benefits can vary; and sometimes travel discounts aren’t the most important factor in determining whether a job is right for you. If you do decide to become a flight dispatcher, though, it’s nice to know that there are a few extra perks.
