“I wanted to tell you I got the job offer from Expressjet, and start next month! I think a couple others from class were hired as well. It just shows the Sheffield reputation when I see graduates from other schools complaining that they can’t get an interview – I wasn’t even back home to Minneapolis […]

PT“Their reputation of excellence amongst the industry is second to none. Sheffield School of Aeronautics should be seen as the standard of how it can be done and how it should be done. I was hired at a major airline with no dispatch experience.” A.Z.

P.Hill – DHL“After receiving my certificate, I joined a class of 4 experienced dispatchers for Part 121 initial training. Without experience, my preparation at Sheffield enabled me to become active at the same time after the initial training.” PR
PR“I am a month into my new job at a airline coming out of reorganization, and am helping the training department by referencing the excellent and up to date course book provided to all Sheffield grads.” RW
RWGood afternoon Eric, I wanted to reach out to let you know that training at (airline) is in full swing and I couldn’t be happier that I chose Sheffield. My classmates, while very smart, definitely had subpar training and that has been very evident. I have waited to write a full scale review of the […]
Attending Sheffield School benefits airline new hires in preparation for airline training“I entered my profession, with more knowledge and information than dispatchers who have been practicing their craft for more than ten years. Not only has Sheffield provided a top notch education, but they have also instilled in me the confidence to succeed.” A.Z.

The Flight Control Team
Flight dispatch is highly specialized, but there are a few jobs that are even more specific. Larger airline carriers, especially, tend to compartmentalize various duties. Dispatchers might interact with these other positions or even find they are qualified to fill them. Here’ s a look at some of the crucial jobs in the flight control team.
Flight Follower
A flight follower is similar to a flight dispatcher, but without the necessity of having a license or the legal responsibility for the flight. Often they are assigned basic tasks, such as monitoring an airplane in flight, and report to a director of operations who monitors and coordinates several flights at once.
Load Planner
A load planner is a specialized type of dispatcher who is in charge of an aircraft’s load. They have the same license as a flight dispatcher, but while the dispatcher is mostly in charge of planning and monitoring the flight generally, the load planner will do balance calculations and monitor the loading of the aircraft. They determine how the plane should be loaded, in some cases visually inspecting the load, and calculate the weight of the aircraft.
Other Personnel
In addition, there are a number of other personnel that the dispatchers will interact with, such as meteorologists, maintenance personnel, security experts, scheduling experts, air traffic controllers, and (of course) the pilots themselves. Some of these various jobs can be done with flight dispatch training, and some cannot—but all of them have to work together to ensure that flights arrive safely and on time.
