Tips for Flight Dispatchers to Avoid Burnout

The job of a flight dispatcher is one that involves passion and dedication. With all the hard work and countless hours, many flight dispatchers can face a burnout. The good news is: there is a way to maintain your stamina and avoid a dreadful burnout.

Don’t Let Your Lifestyle Grow into Your Salary

Upon graduation from a flight dispatching course, most graduates feel overwhelmed with all the new information they’ve taking in, as well as the new journey they’re about to embark on. Having a new job right after graduation can promote feelings of intensity and uncertainty.

If you have completed the training and flight dispatcher course, chances are you’re passionate about your job – even with the challenges you could face on a daily basis. If you keep a positive mindset and can avoid feeling like you have to go to work to pay the bills, you have a greater chance of avoiding burnout.

Speak to Someone

Stress is normal, and many other people go through it every single day. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone if you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Reach out to fellow graduates or talk to one of our professors here at Sheffield’s School of Aeronautics. Find someone who understands the industry and what you are going through to vent about your concerns; it will most definitely make you feel better.

Get Away for Awhile

The stress and daily demands of being a flight dispatcher can become daunting, especially when working for a major airline. It’s a good idea to plan certain vacations to escape the routine of reading manuals and weather graphs every day. Have fun with your jump seat ride! Sit back, relax, and remember the joys of why you wanted to become a flight dispatcher in the first place
