The Numerous Things an Aircraft Dispatcher Keeps Track of
Working as an Aircraft Dispatcher is one of the busiest jobs of all. That’s why airline companies make sure to hire only the best people for the job, and they pay them well. It’s tough enough to operate a single aircraft with hundreds of passengers aboard. Aircraft Dispatchers share the responsibility with the Captain for the safety and timeliness of a given flight, but they are also keeping track of dozens of other flights at the same time. Following are some of the things an Aircraft Dispatcher must pay attention to for each given flight.
Weather Information
The tantalizingly unpredictable state of the heavens is something that is constantly on the Dispatcher’s mind. When the weather changes, the circumstances of a flight may change as well, and a Captain needs to know how to prepare. It’s up to the Dispatcher to give the Captain this important information so that the flight can proceed safely.
Fuel and Maintenance
The Dispatcher is responsible for chronicling the maintenance activities performed on each aircraft and making sure that all planes are safe for carrying passengers all over the world. The Dispatcher must also ensure that fuel is distributed properly.
Aircraft Dispatchers prepare detailed flight plans that include information relating to field conditions, maximum allowable weights for takeoff and landing, and anything else that might pertain to the safety of the flight. There’s a lot to think about, but if you’ve always been good at keeping an eye on detail in a fast-paced environment, you may find this to be an especially rewarding career.
