Wear a Face Mask on the Plane or Don’t Fly

Airlines are cracking down on passengers who are refusing to wear a face mask on their flights. Wear your mask or risk a potential change in travel plans. Learn more about what happens if you refuse to wear a face mask on your flight from the experts at our aircraft dispatcher school in Fort Lauderdale.

Can an Airline Ban or Remove You From Flight?

While no one wants to be banned or removed from their flight, airlines can and will if you do not wear a face mask on your flight. Airlines like Delta, Southwest, American Airlines, JetBlue, and others are enforcing their strict face-covering policy for passengers. In the past few months, some air travelers have refused to wear personal protective equipment on their flights, which has lead to airlines enforcing stricter rules and regulations.

Some airlines are requiring travelers to acknowledge their face mask policy during check-in. If a passenger doesn’t comply with the terms, airlines can implement their own consequences, which can include being banned or suspended from flying privileges.1 Once you are onboard, your airline crew members will discuss their face mask policy, including the consequences.

Flight attendants will begin by explaining to a passenger who isn’t wearing a face mask that facial coverings are mandatory on the flight. If the passenger does not have a face mask on a flight, then the flight attendant will offer one to the individual. Passengers who continue to refuse to wear a face mask after the initial request will receive a pamphlet that includes the in-flight policy.1 If a passenger is refusing to wear a face mask after a flight attendant continuously asks, then a security team will investigate the situation and decide if they will be banned from future flights.1

While most customers are complying with the airline rule of wearing a face mask on their flights, there are still a select few who are not taking the necessary actions to protect themselves, the other passengers, and the crew. If you do not have a medical exemption, then you can expect to wear a mask on a plane. Airlines are enforcing their face mask policies and plan to punish customers who disobey the rules.Be considerate and wear your face mask on a flight.
