Effective Communication Tips for Aircraft Dispatchers

One of the first things you learn when you are taking aircraft dispatcher courses is that communication is vital; it is absolutely crucial to success and safety. Another widely known fact is that the official, international language of aircraft dispatching is English.

When you choose Sheffield School of Aeronautics aircraft dispatcher courses, you will learn the terms, rules, and etiquette of communicating as an aircraft dispatcher. Part of those skills is the ability to communicate effectively, and even for native English speakers, effective communication can be difficult. In our daily lives, we do not pay close attention to effective communication as much as you will when you partake in aircraft dispatcher courses at Sheffield. Once you have begun proper training, you will see why effective communication and knowledge of the English language is so important.

Sheffield has some tips for effective communication during aircraft dispatcher training:

  1. Pause before responding. When it comes to aircraft dispatching, what you say and when you say it matters. You are making decisions that plan and have an affect on an airplanes flight and passengers, so don’t jump up to answers immediately or shoot from the hip; take time to process the information thoroughly so that you can give a solid response.
  2. Active listening. Most people think that communication is a one-way street and refers only to the outgoing messages, but listening is part of communication as well. Aircraft dispatcher courses may teach you everything you need to know about this new career of yours, but active listening is a skill that you must hone in on yourself.
  3. Do not rush. Some people will rush through communication inadvertently, but it is important for aircraft dispatchers to remain calm and focus on the conversation. Communication must be managed correctly and effectively at all times.
