Aircraft Dispatcher Unions Are Flying High

Those who have just graduated or are deciding to attend aircraft dispatching school may be surprised to learn that there are aircraft dispatcher unions. Aircraft dispatcher unions for both United and American Airlines have agreed on new terms with both airlines, and it looks like in both cases the unions have come out ahead.

The aircraft dispatcher union reached a deal with American Airlines to renew contracts for the next five years that will include pay raises. Officials at American Airlines say that they are happy to increase pay for aircraft dispatchers because they are such an integral part of flight operations, and they are pleased to keep them compensated appropriately.

The aircraft dispatcher union reached an agreement with United Airlines to extend their collective bargaining powers until at least 2021. Although no details of the agreement were released, United Airlines’ CEO shared a similar sentiment to officials at American Airlines. The airline CEO praised the work of current aircraft dispatchers and said that maintaining a good relationship with them is important to the airline.

After graduating from aircraft dispatching school and entering the field, aircraft dispatchers will likely not be employed by major airlines immediately. Still, it is important for graduates to understand that aircraft dispatcher unions exist and fight for their rights and great pay.
