Jobs in Aviation Making Traveling Safer Despite the Odds

Despite the two major aviation disasters, travel statistics showed that 2014 was the safest travel year for aviation.

The International Air Transport Association, IATA, revealed that while more people died in 2014 air accidents, the number of fatalities versus the number of travelers was a record low in the history of commercial aviation. Chief executive officer of IATA Tony Tyler, says that they contribute the safety to the improved quality and regulation for jobs in aviation.

IATA represents over 250 commercial airlines, which account for 84% of all air traffic. Even though 2014’s annual safety report showed 12 fatal accidents with 641 fatalities, the accident rate converted into 1 out of every 4.4 million fights.

These statistics did not include the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile June of 2014 in Ukraine – this flight was not classified as an accident.

Another high-profile IATA flight was the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on March 8, 2014. This particular disappearing flight has become one of the greatest mysteries in aviation.

Despite the odds and the tragedies of 2014, aviation is becoming the safest form of travel. We can thank qualified aviation schools such as Sheffield School of Aeronautics for laying the foundation for students to become qualified aircraft dispatchers, and making safety standards higher for jobs in aviation.
