Could GE Cause an Aviation Employment Demand?
A joint venture by General Electric and French manufacturer Snecma (a division of Safran), is currently creating the most fuel efficient and advanced jet engine called LEAP.
General Electric has been a pioneer of innovation for over a century, since their start in 1876. Widely diversified, GE has teams working in all areas; including: research, health, appliances, finance and their latest LEAP jet engine.
GE Aviation pledged to spend $300 million on its Ohio buildings and equipment to increased production volume and testing of its Electrical Power Integrated Systems Research and Development Center.
With over 15,000 employees, GE is the state’s largest manufacturing employer and employs thousands more for its aerospace parts manufacturing industry.
GE Aviation is struggling to keep up with the orders for their existing jet engines and the LEAP that is still in production. LEAP will be the first commercial jet engine and is not only lighter than traditional jet engines, the LEAP will be able to withstand hotter temperatures and its fuel efficiency is over 15% greater than any jet engine on the market.
The commercial aviation industry has grown with the emergence of markets in Africa and Asia. The demand for jet engines has increased because of airlines in these markets looking for new aircraft to replace their fleet, and efficient engines to reduce fuel costs.
GE Aviation has grown substantially with the production of the LEAP, and it is shown through the increase in aviation employment.
Aviation is a constantly changing field, in which there are many opportunities for an aspiring career, with guaranteed growth. Sheffield School of Aeronautics is the world’s oldest and most reputable aviation school. Learn how to jumpstart a career in aviation today.
