The job of Aircraft Dispatcher requires highly trained individuals who can handle the responsibilities of many flights over the course of a day. Along with the captain, the FAA licensed Aircraft Dispatcher shares responsibility for the passengers’ safety. There are major requirements for training and knowledge, but there are also personality traits that are needed to be a successful dispatcher. • Attention to Detail – You must have the ability to pay close attention to the many details of the job as well as being able to monitor and perform several duties and tasks at the same time. Keeping the important details in mind is vital, such as knowing the model of plane for each flight in order to consider the fuel needs and flight length.
• Calm and Decisive – With the constantly changing environment and high degree of responsibility, it is crucial to be able to remain calm under pressure. At the same time, you will need to be decisive and respond quickly to any issues that arise.
• Strong Communication Skills – An Aircraft Dispatcher is part of a team and must communicate well over the phone or radio and respond to questions concerning flight safety details.
