Good afternoon Eric, I wanted to reach out to let you know that training at (airline) is in full swing and I couldn’t be happier that I chose Sheffield. Have Fun with Your Required Jumpseat Ride
As you probably remember from the courses you took at your aircraft dispatcher school, all practicing aircraft dispatchers are required to join the flight crew on a flight in the cockpit once every single year. This is called jump seating, referring of course to the seat that the aircraft dispatcher will occupy in the cockpit called the jumpseat.
What they probably didn’t teach you at aircraft dispatch school is how to enjoy the jumpseat ride you’ll be taking.
The first thing to remember is that it’s free. You’re going to get to take a flight absolutely free. With flight prices constantly on the rise, that’s enough to make everyone you know jealous.
Secondly, you get the best seat in the house. We got into the airline industry because we love aeronautics and everything to do with the skies. As much as people might think the best seat in the house is in first class, we know different. The best seat in the house is the jumpseat. The view, the comradery and the chance to experience the other side of your daily job is all a part of what makes it so great.
And lastly the experience. Ask any flight dispatcher about his or her last jumpseat ride and I guarantee it’s not the same. You might be on a carrier plane, or you might be transporting soldiers across the country. Or, it could be the beginning of your vacation and you get to start it with the view of the clouds as the stream by.
The jumpseat may be a requirement, but Sheffield School of Aeronautics believes it is a privilege and if you look at it right, it’s also exciting and a lot of fun.
