Construction Plans for NYC’s La Guardia Airport
Located in the northern part of New York City in the borough of Queens, is the La Guardia Airport. Combined with its neighboring airports, JFK International and Newark Liberty, the three create the largest airport system in the United States, second in the world for passenger traffic, and first in the world in total flight operations.
Since its opening in 1939, it is safe to say that La Guardia has seen better days. With disjointed terminals, awkward transfers, and overall ‘ugly’ traffic, Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced New York’s plan to give La Guardia a facelift that is projected to cost $4 billion dollars.
The proposed improvement would include:
The project is said to take 4-5 years to complete and is hoping to break ground in 2016. The expansion will create a demand for more aviation employees, ranging from construction workers to increased TSA agents, to aircraft dispatchers handling the increase of flights. What better way to kick off the New Year than by boosting the economy and creating more jobs?
