What Is the FAA Telework Policy?

Those who are switching or starting new careers will likely look for opportunities for telework, which is commonly referred to as remote work. There are many reasons why remote work in an industry like aircraft dispatching is attractive. For one, it offers employees a higher grade of flexibility regarding where and when they work, which is advantageous for many reasons. Remote work also eliminates the time and cost associated with commuting, which can improve work-life balance and reduce stress. If you are interested in becoming an aircraft dispatcher, you may be wondering what the telework policy is for the FAA. What is the FAA telework policy? Sheffield School of Aeronautics and our aircraft dispatcher courses are here to answer your question. Continue reading below to learn more.

Can Flight Dispatchers Work Remotely?

Is it possible to be a work-from-home dispatcher? Remote work for flight dispatchers remains a relatively controversial topic. Many airlines have adopted remote work/telework because of the COVID pandemic since flights still needed to be planned and overseen amid the pandemic, but without the personal contact that made spreading the virus possible. However, many critics of the practice claim that being physically present in the workplace is invaluable in a situation like aircraft dispatching because they can have direct access to real-time data on flight operations, weather conditions, and aircraft performance. In the United States, for example, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that all flight dispatchers hold an FAA-issued Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate, which may include specific training and testing requirements. FAA flight planning may also require that dispatchers have direct access to certain information, which may not be possible if they are working remotely. For the most part, aircraft dispatchers have to rely on several factors, including the airline’s policies, regulatory requirements, and the technology available to assess their possibilities for remote work.

Can I Do Airline Jobs From Home?

It is common to find yourself wondering what is the faa telework policy  when you work in aeronautics. While it may be difficult to find a dispatcher job that could allow you to work remotely, there are other jobs in the airline industry that could be conducted remotely. These include many positions in sales and support functions. These include customer service representatives and sales representatives that could contact the people that they need through the tools that they have at their in-home office. In fact, one of the reasons aircraft dispatchers could have a difficult time getting an airline job from home is the fact that they need to have constant contact with important documents that may not be able to be sent through email for safety reasons. However, there may be functions that aircraft dispatchers may need assistance with that could be completed online.
