At the beginning of May, commercial airlines Southwest and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) announced they have finished negotiation for their new four-year contract extension. The Transport Workers Union represents Southwest’s 250+ aircraft dispatchers amongst many other aviation careers and other private/commercial airlines.
The new four-year contract extension includes that all Southwest Airlines aircraft dispatchers retain their current benefits in addition to receiving wage-scale increases and opportunities for bonuses based on individual and company performance.
Matt Hafner, Vice President of Network Operations Control for Southwest Airlines commented saying, “I am extremely proud of both negotiation teams and their commitment to find an agreement that adequately rewards our hardworking employees and supports Southwest’s long-term success. I applaud all parties for the time and effort they dedicated to this important task.”
Similar feedback was given by TWU’s President Mike Connor. “I am pleased that the Company, once again, has recognized the contribution our aircraft dispatchers make each day.”
Southwest Airlines is responsible for more than 3,600 flights a day, which service 94 destinations across the United States and an additional six countries.
Aircraft dispatchers are responsible for the safety of all passengers and personnel aboard every flight. Aircraft dispatchers provide the pilot with the advised route for each flight, assess weather reports and inform the pilot of any potential hazards.
