From Aircraft to Drones
In light of Amazon.com’s innovative form of delivery, commercial use for drones has peaked in popularity across the nation. As cool as it sounds, the commercial use of drones is still illegal.
As the leading flight dispatcher school in the world, Sheffield School of Aeronautics knows better than anyone that things can get more complex when airborne. Which is why it came to no surprise when SkyWard pushed for an individual traffic control system for drones.
SkyWard is a startup company who partnered with NASA in order to bring their commercial drone network operation to life. Working hard to get FAA approval for commercial drone delivery, SkyWard is demonstrating drone capabilities for commercial use; such as: delivery, emergency-response, industrial inspection, and network coordination. Nonetheless, the thought of allowing thousands of drones to go airborne, seems like a liability without the man power of traffic controllers to operate the entire network of drones.
With this news, it is safe to assume that flight controllers and aircraft dispatchers will no longer be limited to the control and safety of large aircraft, but for drones as well. Both the flight dispatchers and drone controllers will have to work harder to make sure both aircraft and drones can safely coexist in the already crowded airspace.
