Making the final decision on how to spend the remainder of your life is always an important process, but never an easy on. Choosing a career in aviation may be exciting, but it comes with a lot of responsibilities that you need to be aware of. Once you have decided that you want to become an Aircraft Dispatcher you still have three major stepping stones in order to make it official.
Understanding the Job Requirements
Before you become an aircraft dispatcher it is important to be familiar with all the responsibilities of the job. First, an aircraft dispatcher plays a crucial role in the safety of the plane and its passengers. While the captain is responsible for the aircraft in flight, the aircraft dispatcher is responsible from the ground. Some responsibilities of an aircraft dispatcher are coordinating flight plans, calculating the fuel consumption for flight, account for wind and weather for scheduled flights, and ensure that the plan is in compliance with FAA regulations.
Enrolling at An Accredited School
Similar to apply for college, you want to make sure that the school you are applying to is an accredited school. An ‘accredited’ school means that the school has been evaluated by the standards of higher learning associations and that the school has been deemed ‘accredited’ of these standards by a review board. It is important to know that the school you are selecting will give you a degree or certification that is accepted everywhere. Make sure that you research each program and make sure that you are spending your money on an accredited aircraft dispatching program.
Selecting the Course Format
Once you have chosen, applied, and have been accepted to an aeronautical school, you must select your course format. Aircraft dispatcher courses are available online as well as in 3-12 week programs. Speak with an admissions advisor on when enrollment dates are and when classes begin. If you just missed a registration cutoff date or are too busy to go to classes, an online aircraft dispatcher program may be a better option for you to consider. Sheffield is one of several schools that offers an online certification program.
