The Flight Planning Checklist that every Aircraft Dispatcher Should Know

Think it’s easy to become an aircraft dispatcher? Think again! Think you know exactly what it takes? Well, do you know what a TFR is? If not, Sheffield School of Aeronautics can help!

Below is a basic rundown of your Flight Planning Checklist:

Required Information

  1. Passenger names
  2. Passenger and baggage weights
  3. Date/time of requested flight
  4. Flight route/itinerary
  5. Chief of party
  6. Cargo information
  7. Alternate routes determined
  8. Is it a commercial or government airline?

Environmental Factors

  1. Is it a Day or Night flight?
  2. Sheffield can teach you why Day or Night matters on the type of engine
  3. Weather Conditions
  4. Terrain
  5. Density Altitude

Airport Factors

  1. Is the runway’s length adequate for the plane?
  2. Runway surface condition
  3. Lighting
  4. Fueling facilities

Dispatcher Responsibilities

  1. Brief the flight manager
  2. Relay all information to GACC
