Sheffield
School is currently looking for an additional dispatcher instructor.
Experience
preferred: minimum 1-2 years Part 121 turbojet (domestic/flag).
Experience
required: none.
Education
required: Successful completion of Sheffield School's
Aircraft Dispatcher certification course and FAA AD Certificate received
(practical exam passed) at Sheffield School. (preferred: final course
grade 85% or higher.)
Miscellaneous
requirements: ability to instruct clearly; be prompt/on
time to work, have a good attitude, common sense, patience, strong work
ethic, logical reasoning, initiative, and a willingness to view this
opportunity as a way to become a Sheffield School representative. You
must be able to eventually instruct to our current standards and by
our direction; be able to distinguish and clearly separate between regulatory
policy and airline policy that you may be accustomed to.
If you've got personal problems, or you're out of work and need some
cash for the time being, or simply have personal baggage - don't bother.
If you sincerely want to instruct, and make yourself grow, and become
even more knowledgeable, please let me know. I'm looking for someone
who can stick it out a few years or more. Sheffield will probably be
in business longer than most airlines.
Responsibilities include or may include:
- Instruction
of every possible course offered at Sheffield School.
- After
hours (weekdays) tutoring and test grading.
- ADX test administrator.
- FAA
Practical examiner (DADE).
- Administrative
tasks including data base management, telephone calls, photocopying,
preparing mail packets, student notebooks, working via email with
online students, etc..
- Travelling
to virtually any place in the world for training. [no plans to train
the "Iraq Airs" of the world - don't worry.]
Salary:
- Prior
to being checked out as an instructor: $2,600 per month. (time required
likely 1-2 months.)
- $40,000
annually, once checked out - this salary excludes likely mid-year and end-year bonuses.
- Projected
annual raise following successful 12-month evaluation and review:
4-10% + annual bonus. Health insurance after 3 months. IRA/retirement
plan after 3 years.
FAQs:
Q:
I think I know everything already and I'm ready to begin instructing.
What should I do?
A:
Do not apply.
Q:
I'm not into grading tests during portions of lunch or after class.
What should I do?
A: Do not apply.
Q:
I'm not into photocopying, collating, or staying after class to assist
students. I'm kind of a 9-5'er who does not like to stay late.
A: Do not apply. There are plenty of days off throughout the year, but
you need to be prepared to sometimes do more than a full-time job.
Q:
I read, study, take notes, work hard, and follow direction well, but
I don't have much experience. What should I do?
A:
Please apply. Email cover letter and résumé to Eric
Morris.
Q: Is there an interview process?
A:
Yes. You would likely sit with Eric and Katja Morris and discuss all
pertinent information.
Q:
What are you mainly looking for in an instructor?
A:
Pro- follow direction & motivation. Anti- lazy. Background is nice,
but I'm not interested in someone with 8 jobs in 6 years. College degrees
are nice if they weren't bought, but they are not prerequisites. Honesty
is of the utmost importance.
Q:
Should I list every place I've ever worked in aviation operations?
A:
Yes. If we determine at ANY time that you've conveniently omitted anything,
you will either not get the job or lose your job.
Q:
Do you need contact information and supervisor's names on the resume?
A:
Yes. Personal references are useless for obvious reasons.
Q:
If I apply or send you my résumé, will you acknowledge
it?
A:
Probably within one week, time permitting. Aside from that, if you do
not hear from me, we are likely not interested or you do not meet our
qualifications. If we're interested, we'll email you back.
Q:
Is instructing more difficult than dispatching?
A:
Apparently, since 99% can't do the former. It appears difficult to locate
one person who is intelligent, hard-working, honest, did very well in
our dispatch class, truly desires to be an instructor, hasn't been fired
multiple times, and who has no personal baggage or a criminal record.
If you are out there, please let me know. And please don't think you
need years of experience to instruct. On the contrary, you've likely
been brainwashed less with less experience.
Q:
When would you like to begin training someone as an instructor?
A:
ASAP - in an upcoming class. You'd watch, take massive notes,
practice and rehearse with us, then begin instructing or reviewing portions
of that class and instruct full-time during the following class, with
assistance.
Q:
May I email you with more questions?
A:
Yes. Email Eric
Morris.
