Eric,
As always, thanks for the excellent training. The Sheffield
grads in our office are hands down the best dispatchers we have on the
floor...we continue to run circles around (another school's)
"best" graduates. The training we received is obviously far
better than they get even now.
Thanks again for everything.

Hello Mr. Morris,
I graduated from Sheffield in May of 2000. I have to say that I am glad
that I was trained by you and the school. I must thank you for that up
front. I have worked for (other airlines), and now I am at Atlantic Coast
Airlines. My Sheffield education prepared me for Dispatching in the "real
world". At all of the OCC's that I have worked, it seems that the
"Sheffield grads" do the best job. Thanks again for everything.

Subject: Thanks
Eric,
A quick note to let you what a wonderful experience I had with your
course. Bruce and Brett were extraordinary, both with knowledge and
experience. Bruce and Brett were so personable, that even though they
were my instructors, I consider them friends, as well as instructors.
I had considered other courses that required less time/money/effort
on my part to receive certification. I chose your course, however,
because of your reputation--I
didn’t want to feel "lost"
on the first day on the job.. It is an indescribable
feeling to be confident about the career I am seeking, rather than terrified
about what might be ahead of me. I received an appointment for an interview
with an airline before I even graduated.
I am certain that I have your school and, of course God, to thank for
that. I haven’t even actively sought other job opportunities,
because (the airline I'm interviewing with) is exactly what I had hoped
for (it services my hometown). My fingers are crossed!
I miss everyone at Sheffield already and hope to see you all in the
future. In the meantime, thanks – and please send special thanks
back to Bruce and Brett.
Best Wishes,
J.B.

Hi Eric,
Well I'm now officially convinced that your
training and school reputation has helped me land my first job!
I just got a job with Avbase Aviation in Cleveland, OH as a Flight Coordinator
doing basically a little bit of everything (flight planning, crew scheduling,
some price quoting, setting up catering, accomodations, etc.). The pay
starts at $12.02 an hour with possible over-time/bonuses as well as the
standard benefits package. I apparently reminded (the supervisor) at Avbase
(who also went through your program) of himself when he was just starting
out. The similarity was a very young guy with no experience except college
trying to find his first job. He started out with no aviation job experience
and transitioned into the Sheffield program as a base. He saw that common
bond, and was willing to give a young 22 year old a shot! As opposed to
gauging employment on experience, they are taking me under their wing
with the long road of learning about the business ahead of me. They want
me to succeed as much as I do. With the reputation of your program,
companies are able to make generalizations about your
graduates that they will be competent, have determination, be hard-working,
and have a positive attitude. A perfect example of this
is my interview with (another airline). They only hire Sheffield graduates
as dispatchers, and that has to say something! Thanks for your recommendations,
Eric, they were a tremendous help to me..
Thank you again and I'll be sure to keep in touch..
D.H.
Sheffield
note: To receive the Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate, an individual
must be at least 23 years of age; however, the course may be taken if
you are under 23. If the course is successfully passed, the graduate
receives a Letter of Aeronautical Competency. Once he or she turns 23,
they receive the Certificate with a minimal amount of paperwork required.
In the meantime, as in the above case, the graduate can work as an assistant
in operations - it's a good head start! Eric M.

Subject: XXX Dispatcher Job
Eric,
Last Wednesday I had an interview with XXX. It went very well, and yesterday
I accepted an offer of a dispatcher position with them starting in November.
None of this would have been possible
without the excellent training I received at Sheffield
and, of course, the personal recommendation you sent to them with my
resume. Thank you very much for your efforts on my behalf.
The interview started with a written test. Example: Your flight is maneuvering....,
thus the XXX became the best choice. Another question asked me to pick
the best runway to plan for departure, and why. Sheffield training made
picking the right one easy (in this case,....would still be legal).
Other questions asked me to decipher PIREPs, METARs, several TAF's,
even graphic weather charts and symbols, and to use this information
to make flight planning choices. The test went on for three or four
pages, each asking questions with subtle nuance that only someone with
specific dispatcher training could answer correctly. After the written
test came the oral..... then went to questions asking me to prioritize
concurrent crisis's, and to give justification for my choices. They
ran the gamut from an inbound with a mechanical to a stranded flight
with a disabled PIC. Again, Sheffield
training came through. At one point the interviewer
asked if I'd heard these questions before? I did refrain from saying
"Sure, I just had a month of it at Sheffield", but I could
have.
I'm just starting this career so I can't claim to be an expert, but
from what I've seen so far, what you're teaching in the dispatcher course
is absolutely relevant, on target, and indispensable information. It
served me well in the interview, and I expect it will serve me well
in the upcoming company specific training that starts on November 3.
From what I got at the interview, XXX is serious about education, too.
Several weeks of classroom training followed by a couple of months working
with people specially qualified to do OJT. I was told that my desk checks
will probably come in xxxxx. I'll let you know how it goes.
Eric, again thank you for your personal help in getting me the interview.
It was your reputation and the training I received at Sheffield that
got me this job. Also, give my best to Bruce. I'm not forgetting his
help in doing such a great job teaching the course.
Best regards,
E.W.

Subject: Update and question
Dear Ron and Eric,
Graduated in 1999 and haven't written in a while, but I just wanted to
give you an update on how well Sheffield has helped me along.
After graduation I went to work as a dispatcher for Big Sky airlines for
around six months, and then was made Manager of Dispatch. Six months later
I was offered a position at Continental Express and accepted it. Six months
after accepting the position at Continental Express, I was promoted to
Hub Controller. After serving as a Hub Controller for approximately two
years I am today starting my new position as a Lead Dispatcher at the
biggest and the best "so called" Regional Airline. We have over
1100 departures daily and fly segments over 3 hrs. in length with our
all-jet fleet of over 230 aircraft.
I can honestly say that Sheffield played
a major part in my confidence and competence level that allowed me to
move forward in this very competitive profession.
Thanks again,

Hello Eric,
how are things going? Work is going good for me. I have moved up to
the coordinator spot and got a 1.50/hr raise.....along with my annual
raise. Things are going really well. I
can't believe that 1 year ago I knew nothing about airplanes and now
I'm a coordinator with a major regional. Thanks for
all you did for me and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Dear potential Sheffield students,
When I've been meaning to write this a while ago but I've been kinda
busy. I just wanna let every potential Sheffield student this is truly
the best school. I graduated in the April class.., but couldn't receive
my certificate until September due to age requirement by the FAA. I
was afraid of not retaining information but this was not the case the
knowledge I learned was instilled in me due to the excellent teaching.
Once I did recieve my certificate I had numerous calls from airlines.
During most of the interviews they were
really impressed by knowledge and understanding of aircraft dispatching.
One even said "Wow I can tell you went to Sheffield."...Now
I have completed my O.J.T and am dispatching my own flights with no
problem whatsoever due to the excellent training I recieved.
In my few weeks dispatching I have already used exemption 3585 a handleful
of times and many T.O alternates and obviously regular alternates. I
notice many non Sheffield students asking some really stunning questions
that should be common knowledge but that's what happens
when your only taught out of the Gleim ATP book. With all that said
this is truly the best aircraft dispatching school in the Universe.
I am a proud graduate of Sheffield School
of Aeronautics and recommend this school to the highest degree. Even
though this program will challenge you to your fullest the outcome will
be one you will remember forever and gratitification you will get on
the job will be even more fulfiulling.

questions, but they weren't all that tricky if you read them carefully
enough.

ERIC,
JUST WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO TELL YOU HOW VALUABLE THE TRAINING AT
SHEFFIELD HAS BEEN TO MY CAREER. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW PROFESSIONAL "UPS
AND DOWNS" SINCE I GRADUATED FROM YOUR ACCELERATED DISPATCHER, ETOPS
AND ADVANCED INTERNATIONAL TRAINING COURSES IN JULY 1999. I WAS LAID OFF
LAST YEAR (2002). THE "JOB HUNT" SINCE THEN HAS BEEN, AT THE
VERY LEAST, CHALLENGING. I INTERVIEWED WITH 2 AIRLINES LAST MONTH (OCTOBER
2003), 1 MAJOR AND 1 REGIONAL.
I AM PLEASED TO TELL YOU THAT I RECEIVED
JOB OFFERS FROM BOTH AIRLINES THIS PAST WEEK. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT
HAVING BEEN TRAINED AT SHEFFIELD PLAYED NO SMALL PART IN THE OUTCOME.

I have undertaken in my professional life. Sheffield administers a course
that is thoroughly comprehensive and requires absolute dedication to

Even now, some five months later, I am thrilled to be given the opportunity

Ron,
Just wanted to drop a note. I graduated back in Dec. of 1991... I ended
up with about 7 years of dispatch experience (737's, MD80 models and
MD90's). I have a bit of flight experience under my belt, mostly turbine,
some jet. As well, I have all the management experience from my FedEx
days. Anyway, I just came across your web site and decided I owed you
at least a hello! I always have remembered how well you presented yourself
and the respect that you gave to me as an individual. A hard combination
to find in a CEO these days.
Hope all is well.

yourself to spend eight hours a day in the classroom and then another
four studying... about eight a day on the weekend. There are many courses

Subject: Great news
Hi Eric...
I just wanted to let you know that I accepted a job today with Atlantic
Coast Airlines. I had a great interview with them last Friday and was
hoping to get an offer. As far as interviews go, I enjoyed this one
the most. There was a written test I had to take, and then, in addition
to all the usual HR related questioning, there were scenarios that I
had to work out with the two guys interviewing me. It was very challenging
and I enjoyed having to think on
my feet. Also, their OCC looks to be very well equipped and their dispatchers
seem happy. I just wanted to thank you for all your advice and expertise.
I am very excited that after only a month
after I graduated, I got a job. And I have no prior
aviation experience! Sheffield was
definitely the right choice for me and I plan on making that known throughout
my career. If you ever get any prospective students
who have questions, please feel free to pass my contact info along to
them. I will try to help them as much as I can. In the meantime, I will
keep in touch...
Thank you again!

Hi Eric,
Just wanted to let you know how I am getting on here at EUjet. I will
soon be moving away from the daily dispatcher duties of operations control
and into their navigation services department, as they call it. Here
is where all of the new routes are drawn up and test planned...we check
things like the terrain, approaches, performance, typical wx for the
locality, navaids along the routes and so on. I've been getting up to
speed on that during the quiet times in dispatch. When it comes to test
flying new routes I'll be tagging along in the jump seat so that's pretty
neat too. Which brings me to Sheffield school. You
guys really prepared me for all of this, I was surprised too by all
of the information that I had actually retained. When I was talking
to the Nav services manager about moving to his department he was impressed
by the things that I knew. I could read approach plates, had absolutely
no problems with regard to text/graphic weather, I was able to figure
out some of the performance graphs just by looking at them. The AIFP
gave a good idea of flight planning in other countries too and they
were happy that I was familiar with ETOPS.
When
I left Sheffield in July I was kind of fretting a little bit about getting
a job, I didn't know how long it would take and couldn't believe it
when it only took two weeks. Thanks again guys for all of your
help.
Two weeks ago I was in touch with a buddy from Sweden, he wants to become
a dispatcher and was thinking of going to xxxxxx because his wife is
from XX and he would have someplace free to stay, but when I told him
about all of you he changed his mind and
decided Sheffield would be best for him.
I hope to stop by there sometime in the not too distant future. Please

taught me how to study. Thank you again for doing such a great job!

Dear Mr. Morris,
I would like to thank you for your prompt reply to my enquiry. I have
done some research on other schools and had narrowed it down to yours
and another two (one in XXX and one in XXX). Your
school remained the strongest contender for several reasons:
- one of our dispatchers would not recommend
("no comment!") the school that he attended, he said that
Sheffield would give me a better education.
- seeing that KLM sends their dispatchers to Sheffield for training
says a lot (I'm a Dutch citizen and admire KLM as one of the best airlines
in the world.)
- Sheffield seems to have been around for a long time (I still remember
that you used to have courses for flight engineers.

Hi Eric,
Thank you again for your advice. It really paid off. The people I met
at XXXXXXX (airlines) were, without exception, very nice and happy to
be there. I met with the Director of Human Resources and the Manager
of Operational Control.
The interview basically had two parts: your normal everyday interview
questions and then the hair raising "Didn't I just pass my Oral?"
part.
The material they went over was pretty much identical to what you had
advised me to be prepared in. They asked some straightforward questions
on weather theory and then gave a couple scenarios and asked how I would
handle them. I also went through a (weather charts) with them and they
asked me how I would brief pilots on the weather within their area.
They had me decode a METAR, and then they threw a few approach plates
at me. I had to derive alternate minimums and identify a whole bunch
of items on the plates. They also gave me a low altitude en route chart
and asked me to identify a bunch of things. All told, the technical
part of the interview lasted about a half hour.
I also remembered (what you told me) about always wanting to learn more,
that good dispatchers never stop learning and how the license wasn't
just one to practice, it was also a license to learn.
All in all, I think it went really well...the Ops Manager took me around
the dispatch center. The way he was talking to me made it seem as though
they were very interested. I
hope I'm right! Anyway, thank you again for everything. I
am very glad I chose Sheffield.
I felt very confident (not overconfident though) and prepared during
the interview. The Ops Manager said a
lot of good things about Sheffield and that he had interviewed candidates
who couldn't even read a METAR.
I'll let you know what happens as soon as I find out.
Best Regards,
D.M.

Subject: Won't they ever learn
Eric,
I spoke with xxx xxxxxx (Sheffield alumni) of xxxxxxxxxx airlines today.
He said that the company keeps hiring from "podunk schools"
and they had 2 of the last 3 wash out. He thinks they may need to hire
again soon. I told him to have his boss call and make arrangements to
come down (to Sheffield) to do some interviews.
H.F.
Note:
They arrived and learned what airlines know about Sheffield School (that
we're anti-podunk.)
Don't
think in the present only. Consider your future
- attend the school that will provide the tools you need to become
a professional dispatcher!

Hello Ron, Eric,
I just wanted to drop a few lines to update you on my status since graduating
your school in October of 1999. Well, I turned down several job offers
as a dispatcher with some of the regional airlines in hopes of getting
my foot in the door with a major. Although I have to admit the experience
with one of the smaller carriers would be a plus on any résumé
in pursuing a dispatch position with the majors. I decided to go against
the odds and took a job as a crew scheduler with (a major airline).
With my foot in place now I was eligible to interview in Aug of 2001.
I did not get the job the first time partly because of my time with
the company. Then came 9/11 which we all know impacted everything. Well
about 3 weeks ago openings came available, so I'm
happy to report I got the job. Most
of the people that I interviewed with attended (a school in TX) and
many went and sat through refresher 3 days prior to their interview.
As you could guess I felt they had a leg up. No, not a chance! Even
after 3 years since graduating your course, I was able to nail the technical
portion of the interview. Thank you for your dedication of
providing the best and most accurate dispatch knowledge available. There
is no doubt the training you provided enabled
me to obtain my goal of becoming a Dispatcher with a major airline.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
P.D.
Class of 10/99

Eric,
I remember (my classmates) and I thought holy &*%^ when you first
gave us the binder and class schedule, but it was a great experience.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
B.T. (graduate - 2-week course)

Dear Mr. Morris,
My name is XXXXX and my age is 20 and I have finished my A Levels in
United Arab Emirates. I am writing this mail to you because I'm very
much interested in doing a few of these programs taught at your institute.
In fact, I want to do the flight dispatch program held there. I
chose your school because I heard a lot about it and got to know that
you are the program setters.
Many of my friends have come to you to do these courses and are now
enjoying great amounts of pay and facilities here in UAE. I would
like to know if I could also be a part of your institute and what would
be the basic requirements needed for my admission. I hope you would
give my request your immediate attention.
Yours Sincerely,
S.E.

Eric, glad to hear from you. XXXXXXX has been really good. I see what
you mean by having an advantage to have had the chance to go to Sheffield.
I've got about 3-4 more weeks of training and then I'll be on my own.
(The airline lead trainer) thinks we need 3 full months of training
before he will let us go.
There is four new hires... I will probably
be ready first to check out.. I am very grateful for the chance
I got to attend Sheffield when I did. You guys were really good to me
and I thank you for your efforts. Keep in touch and let me know
if you are ever out this way.

and I'm eternally grateful to you for that.

DEAR RON AND ERIC,
JUST A QUICK NOTE TO WISH YOU MUCH PROSPERITY IN THIS NEW YEAR. I AM STILL
WORKING FOR XX XXXXXXX BUT HAVE A LINE WITH XXXXX. AFTER SEEING MY RÉSUMÉ
AND THE FACT I ATTENDED "SHEFFIELD SCHOOL OF
AERONAUTICS" THE OPERATIONS MANAGER TOLD ME HE WOULD ASSIST ME IN
ADVANCING INTO FLIGHT OPERATIONS. I HAVE TO PAY MY DUES OF COURSE.
BUT THAT SEEMS LIKE A MORE STABLE FUTURE. NO GUARANTEES AND I KNOW THAT.
I JUST WANT TO ADD THAT MY DECISION TO ATTEND
YOUR SCHOOL WAS ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS OF MY LIFE. I AM
VERY THANKFUL FOR THAT EXPERIENCE. I STILL KEEP IN CONTACT WITH MANY CLASSMATES.
YOU GUYS
TAKE CARE./...C.B.
