Prerequisites
- FAA
Aircraft Dispatcher Knowledge (ADX)
test must be passed
(> 70%) prior to first day of class or taken and passed during
the first 3 days of the class. Due to the fewer hours of class time,
there is no instruction or workshops on how to pass this test. You must
self-study to pass this particular test. Feel free to use our FREE
ADX test preparation links.
- If
you'd like to check for ADX testing center locations, go to Catstest.com
or lasergrade.com.
If you are not close to a convenient testing center, you can take the
test at Sheffield within the first 3 days of class for a fee of $90.
- Bring
the original Airmen Test report - You'll receive this
from the testing center upon test completion. It must be >
70%, be sealed by the testing center, and be an ADX (Aircraft Dispatcher)
test report, NOT an ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) test report.
- A letter
stating your aviation experience requirements*,
duration, years of employment or military service record, or any other
documentation of proof regarding previous aviation background. Faxing,
emailing, or mailing flight
certificates is acceptable.
*For
a look at the official listing see FAR
Part 65 - Subpart C.
The FAA has granted us permission to allow credit for a variety of
unlisted aviation experience. If you do not
have working aviation experience (per Part 65) within the past 3 years,
you do not meet 65.57; however, you may still meet 65.61(d); therefore,
you may still be eligible to take this course. We will
confirm via e-mail that this course is suitable for you. To assist
Sheffield School to determine if you qualify for the accelerated course,
you will need to fill out the Prior
Aviation Experience
form. Then we will e-mail further details to you.
All applicants
must contact us to finalize and confirm that all details are met prior
to your travel date.
For
more information, call (1-800-843-8289)
for details, or simply request Dispatcher
information
and we'll include the latest updated information.
The
Course
The course consists of two phases: an online interactive distance-learning
phase and a 4-week residency phase.
Phase
I - Online distance-learning. Cost is $1,500 (2009
nonrefundable application fee covers the lessons.) Various modules
of our course are presented online.
Requires: Internet access, a user ID and password (issued
after payment), 4.x or higher web browser, a variety of browser
plugins which are free and easily downloadable. Optional are CD/DVD
drives. Successful completion of Phase I is a prerequisite to enter
the Phase II (residency) course. Plan on a minimum of 3-4 weeks
to complete the online modules and examinations (excluding study
time for the ADX test), based on full-time basis, more if part-time
basis. Once Phase I is accessible, students will have approximately
2 months of maximum access, but the online assignments, lessons,
and tests must be successfully completed and corrected in a timely
manner. You may postpone your Phase II start date if needed. If
you are not serious or you procrastinate, this is NOT a course for
you. Evidence
of cheating or receiving help from others or giving out your individual
ID and password to others will result in immediate dismissal from
the course - no refund.
Phase
II - Residency, following
successful completion of Phase I. 2009 Cost is $2,200.
Duration: 4 weeks, 7-8 clock hours
per day;
8:00am - 4:00/5:00pm with a lunch hour. Occasionally, computer labs
will be conducted in the large classroom toward the end of the day.

Subject: XXX Dispatcher Job
Eric,
Last Wednesday I had an interview with XXX. It went very well, and
yesterday I accepted an offer of a dispatcher position with them
starting in November. None of this
would have been possible without the excellent training I received
at Sheffield and, of course, the personal recommendation
you sent to them with my resume. Thank you very much for your efforts
on my behalf.
The interview started with a written test. Example: Your flight
is maneuvering...., thus the XXX became the best choice. Another
question asked me to pick the best runway to plan for departure,
and why. Sheffield training made picking the right one easy (in
this case,....would still be legal). Other questions asked me to
decipher PIREPs, METARs, several TAF's, even graphic weather charts
and symbols, and to use this information to make flight planning
choices. The test went on for three or four pages, each asking questions
with subtle nuance that only someone with specific dispatcher training
could answer correctly. After the written test came the oral.....
then went to questions asking me to prioritize concurrent crisis's,
and to give justification for my choices. They ran the gamut from
an inbound with a mechanical to a stranded flight with a disabled
PIC. Again, Sheffield training came
through. At one point the interviewer asked if I'd
heard these questions before? I did refrain from saying "Sure,
I just had a month of it at Sheffield", but I could have.
I'm just starting this career so I can't claim to be an expert,
but from what I've seen so far, what you're teaching in the dispatcher
course is absolutely relevant, on target, and indispensable information.
It served me well in the interview, and I expect it will serve me
well in the upcoming company specific training that starts on November
3. From what I got at the interview, XXX is serious about education,
too. Several weeks of classroom training followed by a couple of
months working with people specially qualified to do OJT. I was
told that my desk checks will probably come in xxxxx. I'll let you
know how it goes.
Eric, again thank you for your personal help in getting me the interview.
It was your reputation and the training I received at Sheffield
that got me this job. Also, give my best to Bruce. I'm not forgetting
his help in doing such a great job teaching the course.
Best regards,
E.W.
