What they're saying:

"Excellent interactive training. Excellent on-hand training." E.Philippi

"Excellent handout!"

"Great instructor!" D.T.

"A very informative and must-take course." M.S.

Q: How do some of these schools claim to have certification courses that include a full EWINS course?

A: They don't. ALL Part 65 schools are required to discuss: "orientation to EWINS." We do as well. This could take a matter of minutes for some course operators. What these "non-Sheffielders" receive is quite different than 3 full days of presentation and practice along with a take-home CD packed with information! There's a big difference between an "orientation" and a separate 3-day course.

Some "EWINS" courses amount to viewing a short Powerpoint presentation without an instructor!

That is one reason why we're receiving 2-3 inquiries every week from non-Sheffield people within the industry who "missed out" and now want to enroll at Sheffield!

"Awesome presentation. The instructors are very knowledgeable and will go the extra mile to get you the answer you are looking for. I would advise anyone who doesn't understand how weather works to take EWINS."

"This is a MUST course!"

(More testimonials below!)

We are proud to announce our new updated EWINS course (07-22-04). For the first time, an aircraft dispatcher school will provide EWINS training in house. This is not "Orientation to EWINS" as prescribed in a common Aircraft dispatcher certification course, and what other schools claim as a true EWINS course - our curriculum matches the outline prescribed by the FAA for EWINS certifcation. Sheffield is offering a 3-day EWINS (Enhanced Weather Information Systems) training course. Our course is an EWINS-qualification program, not a 5-35 minute lecture on the theory and concept of EWINS - it is application. After completing the course and receiving a certificate, the individual will not only be more astute at weather analysis, but will be in a more favorable position to become EWINS-certified if their airline deems it necessary for their dispatchers. Basically, it's a head-start into advanced weather analysis, whether you become certified in the future or not.

"If any veterans are under vocational rehab, I would highly recommend ALL of the Sheffield classes to any veteran desiring an aviation future. I was hired the day I graduated (last year from the 6-week course) by a larger midwest regional airline."

R.S.
Sheffield Graduate/EWINS - July 2002

The course is open to all Sheffield graduates as well as any individuals who are interested in increasing their weather forecasting ability through learning a wealth of meteorological concepts and techniques. The price for the course is $600 for Sheffield graduates [$900.00 for non-Sheffield graduates], with the class dates set to begin the day following our scheduled ETOPS classes. We look forward to making new acquaintances within the airline industry as well as seeing many of our graduates return.

The training provided will emphasize operational forecasting, with a significant percentage of this course providing hands-on analysis and forecast practice and evaluation. This training program includes all lesson plans, study guides, handouts, and competency checks for the following curriculum segments:

Aviation Meteorology/Flight Forecasting

Our most updated version of the course (now approaching 20 mb of presentation material) includes the following sections:

  • Concept of EWINS, dispatcher vs. meteorologist roles, FAA definitions and requirements, approved weather sources and industry concerns about EWINS versus standard WINS.
  • The use and interpretation of weather products widely used in forecasting including terminology, limitations, and examples, as well as listings of sources available in the public domain.
  • A summary of various techniques available for element forecasting in the terminal environment and quality assurance/validation requirements.
  • A growing appendix of quick references that would be useful for dispatchers involved in the forecast process.
"Brett, Scott, Bruce, Eric...Once again I've been "Blown Away" by your knowledge, presentation and overall effectiveness in relaying the information so that I could understand and digest. Thanks again, I will be back*!" C.Simpson (October 27, 2004)

*Refresher training is offered without restrictions and costs for SHEFFIELD graduates.

"I learned very much about aviation weather and how to forecast weather. All the advanced courses were very good!" J.C.

"I would recommend the course to my company." A.

"Very informative...very knowledgeable instructor. Thanks for the A+ training!" A.

"Definitely got a better view of weather by taking EWINS. Everything I learned really came together well when we did our forecasts." A. (October 27, 2004)

"The subject was very interesting." (2005, A.)

"Even if I don't get to use EWINS in the future, I feel like I've now got a better understanding of weather." (2005, A.)

"Instructors are experienced and impressed me the most. They were very patient and could answer all my questions. I will recommend the 3 advanced workshops and aircraft dispatcher course to other dispatchers in Shanghai Airlines." Bin H.

"Presentation was clear, updated, and overall excellent. I gained a wealth of new forecasting tips and weather knowledge that will be valuable regardless if I am in an EWINS environment..." (2005, A.)

"The course actually opened my eyes to some interesting material. Never saw some of this (weather) in this light before." (September 2005, A.)

"During the six-week course, I (struggled) with weather. After taking the EWINS course, I was able to write a forecast." (September 2005, A.)

"I feel better in my knowledge of forecasting." (September 2005, A.)

"Very well presented. Thank you!!" (September 2005, B.H.)

"Very good job!" C.S. - Sept. 2006

"Although being a Part 91 dispatcher, I will not be modifying any forecasts, this course opened up a whole new area of weather analysis. With the tools we learned in class, I will be able to serve my "customers" (pax & pilots) much better by routing them around turbulence (accurately) or confidently modifying a flight plan route for a pilot. VERY GOOD class!." L.D. - Oct 2006

"Great course, very informative! Brett is an awesome instructor." A. - Oct 2006

"Overall - ALL course were excellent!" H.A.- Oct 2006

"This is a MUST course!" D.D.- Dec 2006

"Enrolling in the EWINS course was a privelege. You have a lot of hands-on in the class. I would recommend this course to anyone seeking a dispatcher position even if your job doesn't offer an EWINS program. It will "enhance your situational awareness." If you have a chance to enroll in it...just do it!" K.K. - 2007

"The EWINS course was very helpful and if I don't end up with a company with EWINS, I will use this material.." C.P. - 2007

"Excellent training. " A. - 2007

"EWINS gave me a broader understanding of weather information, including using different weather products which are very useful. Thank you and more power!" J.I. - 2007

"The EWINS course is not a text-book like teaching in weather theory. The course is tailor-made for a real-life dispatching environment. I believe the theories covered at Sheffield are more than any dispatcher courses available now." F.L. - 2007

"Got a very good and clear knowledge about weather theory in depth. Also, very interesting to know more about how to forecast weather for a particular destination - overall a very good experience!" T.G. - 2007

"Very informative and provided me with the knowledge I was expecting from this course. Instruction is excellent and the best I have ever come across!" G.A. - 2007

"Regardless if EWINS is an adopted program (in your country/airline), the knowledge gained was absolutely invaluable. Basically, it was a turbocharged weather theory and application course! Any holes in my understanding have been filled because of this course. It has solidified my personal interest in all things weather. Thank you!" J.E. - 2007

"Very helpful to extend the knowledge!" K.S. - 2007
