Sheffield Flight Dispatcher Student Jansenio Carvalho Makes Us Proud!
If ever there was a stunning example of an exemplary, real life flight dispatcher, Sheffield School of Aeronautics‘ graduate Jansenio Carvalho is it!
Jansenio was recently featured in a story detailing the day-to-day life of a flight dispatcher. Watch the short film of Jansenio here:
Jansenio graduated from Sheffield School of Aeronautics in 2004, and has been working as a flight dispatcher for the Transportes Aereos de Cabo Verde (TACV). The TACV is the aviation authority on the western point of Africa, and plays a big role in aviation in the area.
The short video details the day-to-day responsibilities of a flight dispatcher, as seen from the point of view of a working flight dispatcher. The training that flight dispatchers undergo is also discussed by Jansenio and Boeing 767 Captain Mario Socorro.
Captain Socorro says “First, a candidate should be willing, with interest in the field and dedication. It is a field of high responsibility, a job with high stakes. Each flights responsibility is shifted between the dispatcher and the flight captain”.
“It makes it more interesting,” Jansenio says about the extensive training.
Although flight dispatcher schools are intense and somewhat difficult, the challenge and the kind of work are more than rewarding for those who have a passion for aviation.
To follow Jansenio’s example and enroll at Sheffield School of Aeronautics, you must be at least 21 years of age, with a high school diploma.
In regards to flight dispatcher school, Capitan Socorro says “part of the material provided in that training is the same provided to pilots as well. A considerable part is designed for pilots”.
In the video, you will notice that the flight dispatchers have a close relationship to the pilots at the TACV. The film’s narrator mentions the strong bond that develops between flight crews, pilots and flight dispatchers.
Jansenio is just one of the many graduates of Sheffield School of Aeronautics, who are working in the field and making the skies safer for us all.
As the narrator explains, there are guaranteed jobs in the field around Cape Verde, and young people interested in aviation should consider an occupation in the aviation industry, particularly aircraft dispatching. Flight dispatchers hold “a profession of prestige… a great and noble job that literally watches out for people’s lives”.
